Teej

Green bangles, monsoon swings and songs in the rain.

Green bangles and the first cool rain, a swing tied high beneath the neem. May your days swing gently forward and every monsoon find you singing. Happy Teej! 💚

Teej wishes with name, in one paragraph

A Teej wish with your name on it is an ordinary greeting card with one thing changed: it says who sent it. Type your name on this page and you get a card that opens with “Asha is wishing you Happy Teej” instead of a forward from nobody in particular. It is free, takes about ten seconds, and there is nothing to sign up for.

What Teej celebrated

Teej is a monsoon festival for women, marking Parvati's reunion with Shiva after long devotion. It arrives with the first real rain, and the mood is green: bangles, saris, and swings hung from trees.

When Teej falls

Hariyali Teej in Shravana and Hartalika Teej in Bhadrapada — July to September.

Most Indian festivals follow a lunar calendar, so the date moves against the Gregorian one each year. For the official dates, the Government of India holiday calendar is the one to check.

How Teej is celebrated

  • Swings hung from trees and decorated with flowers
  • Green bangles, green clothes and fresh mehndi
  • Fasting, in the stricter Hartalika form without water
  • Ghewar, the honeycomb sweet made only in this season

Rajasthan, Haryana, Bihar and Nepal, where Teej is a major public occasion. Jaipur's Teej procession is the best known.

What people say

Happy Teej, or Teej ki hardik shubhkamnayein.

Straight answers

What is the difference between Hariyali and Hartalika Teej?
Hariyali Teej falls in Shravana and is the greener, lighter one, with swings and songs. Hartalika Teej comes a month later and involves a strict fast, usually without water.
Why is green worn on Teej?
Green is the colour of the monsoon and of new growth, which is what the festival marks. Green bangles and green saris are near universal.
What is ghewar?
A disc-shaped Rajasthani sweet with a honeycomb texture, soaked in syrup and topped with cream or nuts. It appears in shops for Teej and Shravana and then disappears.
How do I send a Teej wish with my name on it?
Type your name in the box on this page and tap GO. You get a card that opens with your name on it, and a button that hands the whole thing to WhatsApp. It is free, and there is nothing to sign up for.
Is this Teej greeting really free?
Yes. No account, no watermark, no upgrade prompt and nothing to install. Your name travels inside the link rather than being stored anywhere.
